mallory was in her final class of the day before she could jet out of the place and get some decent food. this school served nothing but shit to the students. the fast food was fattening and on a good day the salad tasted like wax. it explained why so many of the kids that went to UM were fat and leaning towards morbidly obese. all they ate was the amazing smelling chinese food or the jucy burgers that were so available to them, but should by any means, be eaten every day of their lives. mallory was never a kid to eat fast food all the time, she was one of the only kids who ate the vegetables in her lunch box. but then again that could also be because she's been a vegetarian since grade school. of course there were the boys who teased her with hamburgers and the girls who acted like she had leprosy, but she didn't mind the teasing one bit. she stuffed her mouth full of carrots and was rewarded with a beautiful figure that never fluctuated into a bag of meat.
the bell was only five minutes away from ringing and mallory started to pack up her things. she slid her laptop into her book bag and started to shuffle the hand outs into her binder. she was so ready for another great lunch. but in a moment, everything blurred. the lights shut off and a siren sounded for a few seconds. the first thing that came to her mind was fire drill or some cute little freshman trying to get out of class early by pulling the fire alarm. but it was neither of those. the teacher explained that the school was on lockdown and that they were to file into the auditorium immediately and they were to make no noise or take any items with them. she shuffled out of her classes door way and was surprisingly calm. maybe there wasn't anything bad going on. maybe it was just a drill. she reasoned with herself inside her head while a few girls huddled and cried behind her. they mumbled to each other about friendship and family and how if they died today they would have kissed jonny talcot. mallory felt like they were getting ahead of themselves. no one actually knew what was going on. no one was going to die. the auditorium doors screeched as they opened and mallory sat down against the nearest wall. there was a small blond girl next to her. god. she hoped she wasn't one of those girls who cried.
