THEY HOLD US DOWN LIKE ANCHORS
they drown us out at sea
blair was no doubt impulsive, with a tongue that could be compared to as a fork when she got too anger at the world. that was the point that she was at now, anger, it was filling her eyes with fire and darkening her usual light blue eyes into something more sinister. the imaginary light up sign on her forehead that read “fuck off” was shining bright as she coursed through the rough terrain of the sand on her now bare feet, shoes dangling from her fingers. maddock and her had finally made up, something that she had never thought was going to happen due to the severity of their fight but the tidal waves passed and they were calm now—but blair herself was not. for once, it had nothing that revolved around her boyfriend but the hole in her shoulder was burning to the memory of what had occurred this day. the more that the memory rose, the more red that she saw, not just due to the amount of blood that correlated with the memory but the fact that she was just angry. a mysterious person shooting her parents in a point blank shot to the head and then trying to finish off as she had witnessed it all, a tragic tale that had not left her lips in sometime, even to her therapist who had been trying to get reach out to her since she had arrived in america. the green isles were calling to her as she stared at the ocean that would eventually lead her to them, the water dipping at her toes now as she had shifted closer to the waves in an attempt to reach home that much sooner. her phone was buzzing in her pocket and had been since she had walked on her morning shift at the office, but took no regard to who would be trying to contact her as the world was dead at the moment. stopping mid step, she looked out to the water, raising an eyebrow to the incoming waves that she swore were calling to her (and not in a morbid way, the kind where the darkness surrounded her, this was more passive) as she felt her eyes flood with tears.
looking to her left and to her right, the female saw that no one was actually taking notice of her (plus the lack of people on the beach in the early hours of the evening were nice), the few stragglers that were nearby were too busy with the tossing of a disc for a canine companion or lost in the eyes of their company. shrugging, blair slowly lifted her shift above her head and tossed it onto the sand, her shorts followed and she took off into the water with a dive headfirst, immersing herself in a new, underwater world. the burn in her lungs recalled that she was infact not a mermaid, or a fish, that she was human and needed air and after a moment, break the surface with a gasp as she brushed the water out of her face. the lace material of her undergarments stuck to her now chilled skin but she took no notice of anyone around her as she started to float on her back and stare up at the sky before her eyes started to close. sleep, though a welcoming thought, was not going to come but for once, relaxation began in her muscles until she was suddenly pulled out of her mind as her body was being forced back to the shore and not by a wave. someone had a hold of her, and she began to thrash out of a reaction, ”i’m not drowin you fooking moron!”
