And through the rising and falling apart, We discover who we are
the bar scene had never been something matthew had enjoyed. in fact he detested in. in the past year he had become more accustom to the surroundings. his old mentor had taught him that it was better to drink in a bar alone than at home alone. granted, matthew's mentor was an alcoholic, but he still looked up to the elder man. after matthew's life had gone down the drain, he had turned to alcohol. before then he rarely touched alcohol. it had taken all this time for him to return to his career, and his newest film was supposed to be his great comeback. yet another pressure that had to be added to his long list. directing had been matthew's passion in life, but he lost interest in for a short while. finally matthew was starting to get back into the swing of things and setting his life straight. the recovery process began when matthew sold his home to escape from all of the memories and dreams that the house held. it had felt like he was giving up the most important part of him, but he knew that if he stayed there much longer there was no saying what he would do. once he sold his house he decided to go back to work, and every day things were getting easier on him. except for days like today when there was little work to be done, and the memories had time to seep in.
in the few weeks that matthew had been in miami, he had never been to this particular bar. one of the stars in the movie recommended it, and he didn't want to become a regular at any bar. a change in scenery was exactly what he needed this particular night. inside the bar, matthew immediately spotted the star that had referred him. the younger man was surrounded by several attractive women, and he acknowledged matthew with a smile and nod. if matthew really wanted to, he knew he would be welcomed with smiles. the problem was that matthew didn't do well with strangers, especially women. his awkward nature kept him from meeting strangers at bars. whenever someone would try to spark up conversation, he would say something completely inappropriate for the situation and the person would end up walking away. it was the way matthew enjoyed his life. he was more than aware of the looks he received by the women hanging around the bra in skimpy clothes trying to pick up their next sugar daddy. unlike many guys, matthew actually wished he was one of those fat hairy directors that no one would ever hit on. that would mean letting his body go, and matthew prided himself in being in great physical health. it just made his life more difficult. his hope for the night was that the women would ignore him. he hoped if he kept his face stern and emotionless they would avoid him. matthew eyed the female bartender's back, and he felt himself tense although he couldn't figure out why. "captain and cola." he said quietly, deciding to ignore the feeling in his gut. from his back pocket he pulled out a twenty and placed it on the bar in front of him.
